Unfolding Bud

 Unfolding Bud

One is amazed 

By a water-lily bud 

Unfolding 

With each passing day, 

Taking on a richer color 

And new dimensions. 

One is not amazed, 

At first glance, 

By a poem, 

Which is tight-closed 

As a tiny bud. 

Yet one is surprised 

To see the poem 

Gradually unfolding, 

Revealing its rich inner 

self As one reads it 

Again 

And over again.

The poet want us to approach a poem like how we watch a flower bud open. Which mean we should be more patient. For example, they write, "Revealing its rich inner self As one reads it Again and over again". Which tells us if we are more patient we will see the flower bud reveal it inner self.

The Diary Of Anne Frank

 

  1. How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it? Explain using an example from the text. They haven't probably understood the world yet and have not formed their opinions. This makes use feel sympathy for them.

  2. How would this text be different if it were told from the perspective of an adult? How would the audience’s experience be different? Adult know more about the war/are more informed, whereas Anne didn't understand that. Adult's perspective might be more sorrowful and hopeless.

  3. Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective? It shows how Anne felt and how they reacted - a different perspective. Children are open-mind and therefore they can make changes in the future for good. Children's perspective matter as the same as the adult too.

  4. How are children represented in the text? How are adults represented in the text? Children are loud, annoying, curious, selfish, gullible, naive. Adults are selfish, thieves, semi-educated, fighting, more serious. As you can see the children have some of the adult's emotion like being selfish. This is because the children learn from the adult action more than what the adults say.

  5. Does imagination help the young hero to cope? How so? Provide an example. Yes, imagination help Anne cope with things. When she was feeling sad she would imagine being with her friends and riding a bike with them. She also used her imagination vividly as to keep herself independent and to show her solidarity to the adults. Children use imagination more than adults is because children

  6. Does this text connect in any other ways to the other texts you have read/viewed? How so? Provide evidence and explain. Jojo rabbit because he is also a child and he used imagination like Anne Frank.

How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it?

How would the audience’s experience be different? It would be deep

Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective?
They did this because so people don't take offence to the movie.

How are children represented in the text? How are adults represented in the text?
The children are more in the spotlight will the adults are more hidden.

Does imagination help the young hero to cope? How so? Provide an example. No, because Jojo is forced to grow up in world war 2.

L1 English work from home week 2

Limitless
Low angle shots were used effectively in Limitless. We see this when a low angle camera shots used to inline the drug with his eye. This makes us understand that once he takes the drug he will see the world differently. The director did this to show the drug take effects on his mind making him smarter and being able to see 50 steps ahead of normal people.  Coinciding with this shot with high tempo music making the scene more exciting.  This technique compliment when he says I was blind but now I see.  This makes his words more powerful and more meaningful.

Creek NZ Short Film
Close-up shot used perfectly in Kerosene Creek NZ Short Film. We see this when Close-up shot was used to show what the character emotions. This makes the audience feel that something bad has happened. The director did this to show at action speak louder than word because saying that your unhappy is that powerful. The emotions on her face show more than what you can say. Combined with the low tempo music made it sadder. This reminds me of my hero academia where the close-up shot was often to show the character emotions and feeling.

Metaphors, Similes and Language Features

What is a metaphor? To me, I think metaphors are a way to talk about one thing by describing something else like "there's an elephant in the room" this doesn't mean that there an elephant in the room. What this metaphor is describing is a tense feeling in the room.

What is a simile? Similes are like "sweet as honey" it is making a comparison is what simile mean to me.

Language Features

I found some new language features that I don't know.

Irony - Definition is the opposite of what you mean. Effect - Can be funny, expresses the writer's attitude/tone to the subject.

Jargon - Definition is a specialised language related to a particular topic/group of people. Effect - Shows expertise in a certain area.

Name: Nini Soundala


I’m 16 years old and when I leave school I’m going to Victoria University of Wellington to become an architect. The length of training is 8 - 10 years I know it a long time but it is my passion. I want to design a better building and design better city using biomimicry. Biomimicry is the design and production of materials, structures, and systems that are modelled on biological entities and processes.


Pet: I have 2 cat Lingling and Nougning. I also got 3 goldfish and their name is Thicc, Redhead, and Tiger.

What I like to do in my free time is shopping cuz spending money make me feel good. Also, I like watching anime and movies. I listen to Work from Rihanna and Bodak Yellow from Cardi B.

What did the Treaty of Waitangi say?

The different of the English and Maori Treaty?

Article 1. English version main point is Maori to give up complete sovereignty to the British. This meant Maori came under complete control of the British government and laws. Maori version main point is that Maori to give up the governorship. For Maori, this meant Queen Victoria became the sovereign of New Zealand. However, Maori chiefs still had control of their tribes.

Article 2. English version main point is Maori are guaranteed their 'possession of their lands, estates, forests, fisheries and other properties'. British Crown has the pre-emptive right to buy Maori land that is offered for sale. That meant Maori could only sell land to the British government. Maori version main point is Maori have full chieftainship of their lands, villages and possession and everything they treasure. If Maori wanted to sell their land, they had to first offer it to the British Crown at an agreed price. If the British Crown did not agree, land could then be sold to someone else.

Article 3. English version main point is Maori have the same rights as British subjects. Maori version main point is that the British will protect Maori. Maori have the same rights as British subjects.

My understanding of this article is that Maori they don't really need to sign a treaty. The Treaty of Waitangi was more about giving the British people power which the Maori regret signing it because the English version is different from the Maori version this is what causes conflict.
